The results are in from “Hooked on Voting”

96 Future Voters cast ballots for their favorite fish at the LWVMC’s “Hooked on Voting” fishing booth held at Peter White Public Library this past Saturday. They also got to enter their name in a drawing to win a book about elections and government, choose a sticker, and then fish for a ‘surprize.’ The event attracted kids from 3 to 13, and their
parents got cool VOTE411 bookmarks – they can use the QR code to find out who and what is on their ballot in upcoming elections.

The results! of this important – and fun – election, so here are how the votes stacked up: The winner with 35 votes…….the ever-popular Rainbow Trout. The mighty Sturgeon ran a good race and came in second, with 17
votes, followed by Perch and Large Mouth Bass. There were also quite a few “write-ins” for fish that weren’t on the ballot, like steelhead, black crappie, salmon, lake and brook trout, muskie, splake, small mouth bass, and even one vote for catfish!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our “Hooked on Voting” tables and voted or were drawn to the display of library books about the Constitution, democracy and the importance of voting that can be checked out from the library, or asked questions, or just admired the pictures of our beautiful Michigan fish.

Special thanks to Sarah and the PWPL Youth Services crew for setting up tables and for sharing so many great books!
