The League of Women Voters of Marquette County recently hosted booths at two local events featuring our “Hooked on Voting” program. Kids voted for their favorite fish and fished for prizes.
At Blueberry Festival, there were 441 votes cast for the favorite Michigan fish. The winner by a landslide was Rainbow Trout with 138 votes. The next highest vote getter was, Sturgeon, receiving 41 votes. The remaining votes were spread out among Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Northern Pike, Muskie, Large Mouth Bass, Blue Gill, Lake Trout, Splake, Brook Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Brown Trout, Black Crappie, Coho Salmon, Small Mouth Bass, Pink Salmon, and Rock bass.
At the Maritime Museum’s Lake Superior Day celebration, there were 29 ballots cast for the favorite Lake Superior fish. In a very tight election, Rainbow Trout edged out Sturgeon by 1 vote, 9 to 8! The remaining votes were spread out among Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Northern Pike, Muskie, Large Mouth Bass and Blue Gill.
Thanks to everyone who voted, fished or stopped by our booths!
